E-M5 Exposure erratic. Is this normal?

OK, so remove the variables. Try a series of images of white or grey card, with differing aperture (use aperture priority and allow the shutter speed  to change) and no other variables. I would use a manual legacy lens for this. That should be an easy way of seeing if the exposure really is varying when it should not (and should also show whether it is inconsistent with a series taken with exactly the same settings). I think you'll find the shutter is defective, just not bad enough to produce gross errors or black frames yet.

Once you are sure the exposure really is consistent, move on to other tests. If exposure is not consistent, the camera is defective and other tests/adjustments are going to be pointless.
