Don't get me wrong, Ray, as I do certainly understand the use and need of Primes.  Definitely. But, not in a shirt-pocket camera was my point.

Thank you for your explanation.  The more I read of everyone's stories, the greater understanding I get of how different people use different cameras.  And, in a way, your story has intrigued me with what I would do with just a prime lens.

While I may never see an "A" in my bag, I'm beginning to get why others do.

I looked at several m4/3 cameras and smaller interchangeable lens cameras, to use a "pancake" prime only for sharpest results, but none ever made the cut for various reasons. The simplicity of the 'A' was a selling point for me, but others may find a pancake lens on a m4/3 would be a better investment.

Edit: The very low to nonexistent operational noise of the 'A' may get it into places where m4/3 cameras might have too much noise. Not sure about that though - my Pana G1 wasn't too good.

The near silent shutter is worth an extra few hundred dollars. The GF cameras and the NEX cameras sound like theres a bomb going off. So even after I "superglued" the 14mm onto my GF1, I have had to suffer with the insane amount of shutter noise. Taking discreet photos is nearly impossible.
