The 100L AF is faster with the IS turned off in lower light . Anything above 1/1000 , IS is worthless .

The 100l seems sharper than the 100 [ both ] This was in camera store testing and a relative has the 100 L - Played with a little in shade . I preferred my 180 to his 100 L mainly for working distance .

My 2X III would not fit the 100 L , if you care .

Wether or not you use filters , the 100 macro takes a 58 , the 100 L  takes a 67 , the 100 F 2 also take a 58 mm .

My 180 is also a 58 mm . I prefer the 77 mm and then the 72 mm . They just fit my hand better .

If you are going to get one , I would get the IS . Like curse control and AC - Nice to have when you need / want it .
