If i do sports, I often need a certain DOF and minimum shutter speed. As long as the about one stop DOF difference between FF and DX does not mean I have to use a shutter speed below the critical levels, FF is prefered despite price, weight and cost. However, when the light gets to critical levels and I need to up my iso one stop to keep my shutter speed in safe ranges, I lose any advantage in that specific situation. That does not mean there are no other circumstances, even in sports, where FF has a clear advantage over DX.
