Your original post was correct. At f2 the lens is useless especially for Macro.

When you read the DPReview carefully and then the comments of the lens designers on the X100 website you start to understand that this was as a result of design decisions to keep the lens compact.

Macro shots above f8 are usually unacceptable to me and for normal working distances I need to use f4 or f5.6.

Of course soft subjects can work really well at f2 but to get this lens to resolve at its best you have to stop down the closer you get to your subject ( not DoF ).

This has been covered in these forums but only after I sent my first copy back as being too soft.

Personally I hate the lens and love the camera.
