Is the Nikkor 70-200/2,8 VR-I good enough for full frame digital (D600/D800) ?

For me, the VRII was a very worthwhile upgrade from the VRI.  The main advantage was not improved FX image quality (although it is there), but I found the focus speed of the VRII to be significantly better.

I do a great deal of ski racing photography, and I shot on race with a D3 and the VRI and VRII lenses.  The VRII produced significantly fewer OOF shots.  The in focus shots were also generally sharper with the VRII.

I must add that I found the VRI was my "worst" focusing lens in the sense that it had the lowest success rate compared to the 200-400 and 200 f2 (no surprise on the latter).  So it is possible that my lens was below average.

In any event, I found the upgrade well worth it and wouldn't hesitate to do so again.
