I mentioned black metal because I had shot a number of old Nikon lenses. But didn't post the images. So, you are saying rather than a softbox or reflector, a point source or harder light would be preferable?

I will get the book. Here's a few more examples, some of which turned out a little better:

1st time using 60mm G. I neglected to stop down. Shot at f2.8. Stopped down would have been better.
