Unless you are printing much larger than a 13" wide desktop printer or cropping like crazy, a 10MP class camera (4.6MP) is every bit at good detail wise as a D800/Merrill.

The 4.6MP Foveon output is great at 13" (33cm) but marginal at 17" (45cm) - at least *I* wasn't 100% happy with the prints at that size.

If you define 17" as much larger than yes, you are right. If you think that there are no visible resolution differences at 17", you are wrong.
