What size film did you have in mind? 8 x 10 inches or 110 (quarter-frame)?

That is why old TV series can be remastered as high-def blue ray - because it was originally shot on 35mm film.

That's a non sequitur.  The resolution of blu-ray is 1920×1080 pixels, or about 2 MP.  Of course the effective resolution of 35mm film is much higher than that: estimates on this thread put the effective resolution of good 35mm fim somewhere in the 8 - 20 MP range.  The fact that a 35mm film can be converted to the very modest 2MP blu-ray resolution doesn't prove anything about whether it does or doesn't out-resolve modern digital sensors.  Not that it matters much.
