Thanks for posting - I never would have seen that.

The article was fascinating primarily because it started and ended intelligently, counter to my expectations of NBC news. Summary:

  1. Fix or dump Windows 8
  2. Improve battery life
  3. Up the resolution, screen quality
  4. Lower the prices
  5. Preload powerful software (no more crapware)
  6. Focus on build quality
  7. Utilize all that processing power

Of these proposals, almost everyone would ratify 1 2 3 and 7.

Yes they actually used the word "crapware" to describe what is usually preloaded on Windows.

Proposals 4 5 6 are costly and likely to further reduce margins, already low, so although laptop buyers would love to see them, they really are not practical. Moreover 2 and 3 are contradictory:  higher resolution requires more power.

So would the 4 remaining proposals save Windows? I really don't give a darn for my own use, but it will be interesting to watch.
