AWB: It tries to make an intelligent guess and many times gets it wrong. Many a time I have seen woodland shots where the foliage has that bluish green tonality, and the earthy pathways have that magenta cast.

Even in a typical landscape where there is no predominant colour; AWB will often get things wrong.  Have you not noticed many a splendid scenic picture posted here that have blue clouds! Blue clouds?  Clouds are grey not blue; unless you get that particular time of day like late afternoon where the light starts to take on those nice warm honey tones.)

Unless you are going to be particular and carry a grey card for every shot, the WB picker tool in your favourite photo editing software may be the way to go.

Otherwise you have already noted how the AWB set to ‘cloudy’, warms up the shot and renders better tonality in the foliage.

You should try ‘cloudy’ settings for snow scenes too. It’s amazing how it gets rid of blue shadows!
