There is. It refers to a lens like the Canon 70-200mm f/2.8 zoom. The f/2.8 aperture is available at all focal lengths. This is the "fixed" aperture. In a zoom like 28-135 f/3.5-f/4.5 the aperture is not fixed, and can change as you zoom.
