I have seen many perfectly good examples of fill flash using 5Ds and other cameras with 1/200 sync speed in direct sun that are perfectly balanced with the sun light so it is perfectly possible despite your claims to the contrary.  Of course they don't use the flash at long range.  They know their equipment and use it correctly.  No flash except maybe really powerful studio strobes are that effective at long range regardless of sync speed. The fact remains in the majority of situations where flash is used 1/200 is just fine.  If your style and method of shooting requires 1/250, well that is why Nikon makes the D800, and D4.  One of the reason the D600 has the 1/200 sync speed is to get people like you who will settle for nothing less the the best possible sepcs to step up to the D800/D4.   If the D600 had all the fancy, high end specs you want it to there would be no reason for anyone to buy a D800 except for maybe a few landscape/fine art photographers who need the highest possible resolution. That doesn't make the D600 flawed or deficient it just makes it a different class of camera at a different price point with specs appropriate for it's position in the line up.
