Preventing mould, how to protect you equipment ?
Apr 14, 2013

I live in a place where 3 month of the year, humidity is constantly around 90%, they call it the "mould season".

I've seen photos posted on forums that shows purplish mould spots dotted around lens, and was told this effective destroys the lens with no hope of recovery.

So i have some questions:

1. are weather sealed lens immune to this problem ?

2. Will the lens and camera mould up even if I use them everyday ?

3. is there a cheaper solution to buying a dehumidifying cabinet to store your lens ?

I've only started a few month ago, all my stuff are really cheap, so I don't want to buy those cabinets. The only alternative I thought of was to collect a bunch of those mineral desiccants packets from packaged food, and line them in the base of my camera bag. Are they effective at removing moisture ?

anyone have experience dealing with this problem ?
