Whatever you do, don't trust iA for stills or videos. Shots tend to be overexposed. Learn how to use A mode and exposure compensation. That should be enough for 90% of your shots. My settings are Sharpness + 1, Contrast 0, Saturation 0 and Noise Reduction -1. I have been very impressed by what this camera can do when operated well. Have a look at some of my gallery images. I do mostly travel and nature photography.

I wouldn't bother with a tripod, as you can always set your camera on something sturdy. I have gotten a lot of shots that most say are impossible by thinking outside of the box. That said, I have just purchased a nice tripod and expect my photography to improve.

Lastly, learn how to post process your photos with a programme such as Photoshoppe. Good luck.
