My thanks to everyone for your posts and the excellent information that you have provided. I am clear now what I need to do to get good panoramic shots, firstly get a decent head that allows me to rotate the camera around the correct point and also shoot in portrait mode for horizontal panoramas

I use a 17-35mm f2.8 with a d800e for most of my landscapes and am coming to conclusion that a prime in the range 20-30mm would be beneficial. If I was looking in that range what would you recommend? Whilst I do want good quality, unfortunately money is not unlimited and I wonder if Sigma has anything that you feel will do the camera justice and keep somewhere near a decent budget?
