A year or even three or five years may not tell us much. A breakthrough in on-sensor AF, especially with larger sensors, and using a mirror would become as much a moot point as 4/3 manufacturers discovered several years ago.

The DSLR is not just about autofocus, it's about a viewfinder that does best what a viewfinder is supposed to do. Not to show me 'what the image will look like' as in exposure and white balance, but to show me in real time what the camera is seeing, without jerkiness, jitter, smearing, or battery consumption.

What the camera is seeing isn't what you see through an optical view finder. You'd need an EVF for that.

I don't care about smaller and I have no concern about getting rid of the mirror. For me, mirrorless is the answer to a question I never asked.

You don't have to. Not everybody has to agree. Some still prefer MF. Some still can't give up film. My point is about what is holding mirror-less back at this time (even though the sales are rising). Today's mainstream mirror-less market that is "troubling" "FF forever" gang is basically an effort that spans barely 5 years (3 years on APS-C).
