Widows 7 is a solid, stable system with a lot of features that make sense and a well done UI.    It appears that after eating the Vista humble pie, MS actually listened to the criticism aimed at Vista and made the changes needed.

But what truly drove masses to Win 7, IMHO, was the maturity of 64bit platform.   When Vista launched, the 64-bit scene was a mess.   Most drivers were missing or buggy, 64 bit software was scarce, but if you wanted 4GB RAM or more, you needed 64 bit.

Windows 7 launch, however, presented a totally different picture.   64bit drivers were available for most hardware and properly worked.   And 4GB or more RAM was quickly becoming standard, presenting the most compelling reason to upgrade to the new OS.
