Everyone acts as though DOF is a only function of sensor size and F-stop. But it's a stronger function of subject magnification (actual, it's inversely proportional to the square of the magnification.)

Meaning, a macro photo w/a cell phone will have less DOF than large format landscape.

The bottom line is your "just right" DOF may be indeed be just right for a certain subject and framing. But it's unlikely to be just right for all useful framings. Try looking at the DOF for a wide angle, full body shot. Even FF won't give you much.

The more DOF control you have, the better. But if your setup is giving you the DOF you need for the shots you take, that's great.
