The lens I am refering to is a 55mm diameter, just make sure it is a f3.5 constant and has the Macro switch. It will not be your expected 17-50mm, but its definitely is a nice sharp lens. I do not find it bulky, but that is a very personal appreciation...

I am not aware of any MF lens that could match your 17-50mm wish, though.

Yes, I was afraid there wouldn't be any.

How much should I expect to pay for a 30-55 ? $50-ish ?

I need to think about this lens... I am afraid 30 mm is still too narrow for landscapes.

The Minolta 35-70mm should cost between 40 and 80€. I got mine for 49€...

You can find wider, but not as a zoom lens. There are several nice 24mm f2.8 legacy primes from Sigma, Canon, Minolta, Olympus, etc.. The Olympus OM Zuiko 24mm f2.8 is a real sharp and nice lens, its other advantage is its size.
