A good copy of the 18-55  is actually very good around 24-30mm & f5.6 in good light. Of course it isn't as fast as the 50/1.8!  I don't use mine too much (I prefer manual legacy primes), but it's great for holiday snapping when it's too hot to manual focus! 18-55 @ 24mm f5.6:
