I can choose ANY combination for an occasion I want. It could be a 370g combination for a casual walk around (NEX with 20mm f/2.8 pancake).

Which can also be done with FF as well.

Gear list?

Sony RX1 should be an example of what's possible, size-wise.

True, and it is an impressive design. Except that RX1 doesn't have an EVF, articulating LCD and interchangeability of lenses. So your options to choose for an occasion is limited to the fixed lens. It would work for my needs most of the time, but its use for occasions that demand greater optical reach and such flexibility will necessitate investing in another camera anyway.

NEX-6 (Articulating LCD, EVF, ILC) versus RX1 (Fixed LCD, EVF/OVF optional, Fixed Lens) versus NEX-5R (Articulating LCD, EVF optional, ILC). And with 30-35mm equivalent FoV lens attached, it competes well in terms of weight as well:

NEX-6: 414g (0.9 lb)

RX1: 482g (1.05 lb)

NEX-5R: 345g (0.75 lb)
