Don`t delude yourself , an alloy mirrorbox would look much the same - mag alloy is more fragile than polycarbonate, even if the mirrorbox was steel (like a 1DS MK3/1DX) the camera`s mount/mirrorbox  would be destroyed after a drop like that -

Canon build controlled "break points" into the mounts of their later Pro lenses which doesn`t compromise the "toughness" but allows the mount on the lens to snap off in a drop like that (seen it with the 24-70L), the shoot can possibly continue with a different lens (depensing on the Drop) and the lens is easily repaired and the I`d have thought Nikon would do the same with stuff like the 17-55 ..
