The metaphor already used here is also one key to the photo, since the wreaths are bluntly funeral wreaths ie signify death, so we have on one side the light, which is not of the other world, but makes a contrast, accentuating the meaning, and on the other side the empty space (emptiness), the three manhole covers, a distant image of a grave (too extreme to think it like this), the little scenery of the world of the living and the not showing (how could that be?) other world, towards which the man (the men) is wandering, carrying the wreath almost like a cross. The interesting thing is we (as spectators) occupy a position in that "other world" in relation to the photo, and this is a game the photo plays with us, since things are usually different (the photo is "dead", we are "alive"). Anyway, this is very interesting since it conveys it's complex meaning photographically in an almost allusive way.
