Reliability: 14-54 MK I versus 12-60mm
Apr 10, 2013

Having read of more exposure problems  with the 12-60 and really none with the 14-54 MK I,  I have decided to take the 14-54, along with the 50-200, plus the E-30, on an Alaskan trip this June.  I would only (perhaps) miss the wide angle advantage of 24mm versus 28mm.  Focus speed and sharpness are equal as far as I can determine and the 14-54 is a little faster at  the long end.  Could it be that the SWD lenses have an inherent problem because of the design??  Additionally the 14-54 is smaller and lighter and uses the same filter size as the 50-200.  I had an occasion just recently where the 12-60 grossly over exposed for a few frames , but then returned to normal.  It was as if the aperture failed to stop down.  I really love the 12-60, but don't wish to chance anything on an important trip.    Charles Baxter      slowbutsteady
