Before you give up completely check your home owners insurance and see if it would replace the camera?  Also if you used a credit card to buy it some of them extend the warranty and/or replace items lost or damaged.  Hopefully one of these safety nets will work for you?  I try to always keep mine on a wrist strap or shoulder sling strap but there is always room for the unexpected accident.  Sorry about yours!!
