APS-C sensor size produce earlier difraction cutoff. This is why prime lenses have max resolution in f4 to f5.6 region. Zooms tend to shift this point between f5.6 and f8.

Full frame's resolution declines at higher f-stop region so the max res can spread all the way to f11.

Please notice that D800 senzor dot pitch is 4.9 micrometers compared to 3.9 in D7100 which makes DX currently more demanding format when it comes to lens resolution.
