Canon 9000 Mk II Out of Ink?
Apr 9, 2013

I have heard that running a 9000 when it is out of ink will burn up the print head, so I am a little wary of running it long after the "Out of Ink" message comes on. Tonight, however, I printed another 18 5x7s with no loss of quality. I changed the cartridge then before starting to print my 8x10s JIC. There was still ink in the sponge.

I am curious about what the rest of you do? With my old Epson printer I always printed until I got a bad print, then replaced the ink. Is that safe to do with the Canon? I spent quite a bit of time googling this to no avail.

I have seen that newer Epsons stop when you actually run out of ink, even in the middle of a print. Then you can replace the cartridge and continue the print. That seems like the ideal way. Does the Canon do that?

I am not (at this point) interested in refilling my ink, although I know that makes the issue moot.
