I am using 10.8.3 and can still connect the camera in USB mode, copy the still images folder to the desktop, and import the references into "Lightroom". I am not seeing packages for the still image folders. Works very well for me. No need for a separate card reader.

The AVCHD video streams (aka. vide file structures) are the only thing I am aware of that are bundled into packages on MacOS X. Here it makes sense because there are a lot of files that belong together and constitute the video stream, and that usually should not be touched individually.

I know that the AVCHD streams have to be bundled, but in my case even the MTS files are bundled and so on up until the desktop level. I run it also on my laptop with 10.6.8. and never had this problem, so I guess the devil lies in the preferences or God knows where; I ll try to reformat the camera
