This reminds me of film days: in the 1960's it was argued that 1/2 frame was adequate when compared with full frame; 35mm was adequate compared to 120 film; 120 film was adequate when compared to 4x5.... add nauseum. What it always comes down is: does you original size of image enlarge satisfactorily to the print size you need, all other things like lens, film/sensor sensitivity being equal. Size does matter. However technicians always have more fun arguing these things than they appear to have actually taking photographs and viewing the results. To each his/her own.
