Either Adobe sells what people want to buy and what meets their needs, or those people will move on to some other product.  Do you honestly think Corel or ACDSee, for example, are incapable of adding features to their products to offer what the consumer wants in an editor?  Do you think they are incapable of creating an editor fully the equal of Photoshop?  Up till now there hasn't been much of an economic incentive is all.

But this move to "The Cloud" is challenging ALL of our assumptions. (Even the idea of "The Cloud" itself in some ways). If you think of yourself as a 'victim' of Adobe, then you are.  Maybe it's time to think about what it is you want out of a photo editor and ask yourself if you are getting it.
