a fast lens and a drunken stagger
In reply to Paul De Bra, Apr 8, 2013

Snobs may occasionally purchase fast lenses, but not all fast lenses are purchased by snobs. Avoiding fast lenses deprives the creative photographer the use of wide apertures to affect the final image. Slow lenses sometimes preclude any photograph at all.

And if you are a low light aficionado, despite high sensitivity and IBIS, a 25mm f/1.4 lens is far more versatile than the f/4.5 zoom (typical f-stop at 25mm on a m4/3 kit zoom) . On the other hand, we all know that it's only a snob who wants a reasonable shutter speed in available dark.

Oh, and IBIS, IS, VR, OIS, etc. only help with your own drunken stagger down at the pub. It does nothing for the drunken stagger of your friends on the other side of the viewfinder! A fast lens does help there.

So, using that example, I guess it's clear that fast lenses are for snobs anddrunks.
