wide gamut monitor question
Apr 7, 2013

I currently have 2 older Samsung LCD monitors which have proven difficult to calibrate. I am looking at getting a new 24" IPS monitor to replace one of the current monitors and am intrigued by the wide gamut monitors now available (such as some of the Dell Ultrasharps). While I would do my photography work on the new monitor, I also would want to use it for general use the majority of the time. I have read that regular display on a wide gamut monitor in adobeRGB mode can look garish. I have a somewhat naive question: is it possible to avoid this by switching the monitor into sRGB mode when doing non-photographic work and only switch into adobeRGB mode when running Photoshop or Lightroom? If so, would it require a reboot?

Many thanks for your help.  ---Jim
