Lightroom to Photoshop and Back
Apr 6, 2013

Hmmm. I thought I could do this:

  1. Select a raw file in Lightroom, make some basic exposure and tone edits, and pass it on to Photoshop.
  2. Make some layer edits in Photoshop.
  3. Days go by.
  4. Return to the photo in Lightroom, and tweak the original raw exposure and tone controls while preserving the Photoshop layer edits.

Now, I know I can do all of this in Photoshop, using a Smart Object. but I kind of like the Library in Lightroom, as well as the Develop module versus ACR. But when you pass the file off from Lightroom to Photoshop, either as a tiff, psd, or smart object, it is coming back into Lightroom un-editable.

Am I missing something? It is fine wityh me if the layers stay in Photoshop, but I want to be able to tweak and retweak the basic raw file in Lightroom...
