Sigma 17-70mm version
In reply to Peter A. Stavrakoglou, Apr 5, 2013

I am thinking of the Sigma 17-70mm too, old version since the new C (Contemporary) had not a very positive reviev at Lenstip and the former is sold at heavy discounts here in Europe.

I think the new finish is more attractive, but you can't have everything.

hehe, the build quality on tokina lenses seems to be better, at least for my eye

but for the 17-50mm range, IQ-wise tamron win hands down.

not considering the sigma 17-70mm F2.8-4 and 17-50mm F2.8? both seems to be a worthy contender. Sigma paint sometime peels off easily though

Sigma is no longer using the same finish in the new 17-70mm, it's a smooth finish now, like they've been using on some of their other lenses for some time now like the 50mm 1.4.
