Joms, an idea- since manual zoom is useless for video and videos normally use only a very small part of the sensor's resolution why doesn't Fuji implement lossless digital zoom for video and use the rest of the sensor's pixels to implement it? When implemented this way digital zoom has the same image quality that optical zoom would.  Plus it would aid in focusing and composing.  You also have the IDZ Fuji already has and the two types of digital zoom could be multiplied together.

It is not the manual zoom per se as useless for video. IF and only IF you need to zoom in and out gradually while recording then it becomes a problem. Otherwise, you can zoom in and fix the focal length of recording or zoom in/out in one shot to avoid jerkiness.
