That is at least something.

While trying the different settings I downloaded samples from DPReview and Imaging Resource and one thing I really don't understand is that I cannot see any banding whatsoever at any ISO, even when pushed 5 stops. (????)

Not enough underexposure in any part of the scene in DPR studio shots. In imaging resource's look for that studio scene (in the black box down center):
