Given that Sigma's sensor seems so well suited for landscape/architecture I'm wondering is an ultrawide(20mm equivalent or wider) model possible? I thinking mainly about cost and whether the foveon sensor can cope with light coming in at a narrow angle.

Sure. And it is not about microlenses or other stuff. Sigma and Foveon have tried out all of those variables long ago (at least 6 years ago). The lens design is a bit tricky, but so far Sigma have done well there. The size would increase considerably though. An ultrawide would have to be rectilinear to have a chance, and such a lens - let's say 10 mm to really make a difference - will be huge, comparatively speaking. Just look at any 14 mm lens to get an idea.
