Inversion flips the tones as well as the hues making a rather dark pic light and dreamy.  It is not an automatic choice because the flipped colors can be plain awful.   In this shot, I selected the yellow color channel and adjusted the water color to make it complementary to the others.

Like HDR, one can also make images with a less obvious effect.  Here, a lighter, warmer pic became darker and cooler.

With either shot, I like the way the new colors stand out.

Very nice, those.  interesting you mention thisI have in my gallery a couple of inverted B&W I did only this past weekend.
