Absolutely correct, Reilly. Nikon sensors flat-out suck at ISO 100, and D700 is no exception.

What confuses people is comparing at different magnification.

If you read my post, I wrote D800 at 36MP and D700 at 12MP, not at same output resolution. If one resizes, the D800 beats the D700 from ISO100 to ISO25600. The point was made in relation to the "D7100 has more grain than D7000" posters. Resizing D7100's files to 16MP it's either a tie (low ISO) or the D7100 is slightly better, from my own RAW tests. The character of noise is also a bit different, the D7100 files seem to have slightly more chroma noise relative to luma noise, compared to the D7000's. Which is a good thing, it's easier to clean chroma noise.
