Tamron 17-50 focus adjust
Apr 1, 2013

I posted this on the third party lens forum but I thought I'd ask the Pentax SLR forum as well as I'd like your advice as well.

I have a Tamron 17-50 non VC version for my K5.  All my other lens (Pentax) do not require any micro focus adjust (MFA).  The Tamron requires +5 at 50mm at 2.8 and +9 at 17mm at 2.8.  I can use +8 or +7 if I  give up sharpness on the long end however  by +6 at 17 at 2.8 the sharpness is degraded substantially.  However I can't go above +5 on the short end before it degrades.

So should I set the MFA at +5, +6, +7 or +8?  I expect to use the lens mostly at its wider openings - 17-35 at f2.8 - f4. Is the MFA spread between 17 and 50 mm (+9 to +5 a spread of 4) typical for this lens?  Would sending the lens in for calibration minimize the MFA spread?
