You do not need to use standard EF lenses.  You can use only the smaller and lighter EF-S lenses instead if you really want a small, light SLR.

That doesn't help much. Look at the 17-55/2.8 (645g) compared to the m43 Panasonic 12-35/2.8 (305). It may be lighter than a 24-70/2.8LII (805g), but it's in excess of twice the weight of the m43 working equivalent.
