One difference that nobody has mentioned yet is color management. On MacOS X, color management is done by the operating system itself (called ColorSync). That means that even non-color managed applications will use color management when they show an image on screen or send it to the printer. On Windows, color management is done by the individual application. For color-managed applications, such as Photoshop and Lightroom, there is no difference between both methods. But for non-color managed applications (meaning most applications) it means that you can get unexpected results when printing a document that contains a photo or when viewing images on screen.
