I gave up my terrific 80-200 f/2.8 because it was so heavy I often left it out of my bag.  I could have afforded a 70-200 VRII (but probably would have opted for the VRI), but that didn't solve my basic issue.

I've loved my f/4 so far.  Light, sharp, handles great and it stays in my bag all the time.

If you aren't shooting sports or something similar where that extra stop goes from convenient to necessary, I don't see why anyone wouldn't buy this lens.
