If you are using the pop up flash on the camera then an UWA lens will cause a big shadow in the lower and middle part of the image. Especially if you have the lens hood attached to the lens.

Best way to use flash with an UWA is to have an external flash OFF the camera (maybe even two flashes) or just use a flash mounted on the camera which would make the flash high enough to avoid any shadow effect.

I am using external flash - SB 400 or SB 900, and always bounced if possible. Internal flash is for emergencies only, or light fill flash on the go.

Here is a another trick,..
 if you are photographing with an UWA and something near the middle or bottom of the image needs a fill flash and you only have the pop up flash avaialable, let's say you have sky at the top,...
...then just turn the camer UPSIDE DOWN now the shadow from the UWA is only on the sky and you don't notice it at all
