Re: RRS vs. Kirk?

My D800, with my 300mm F/4 lens mounted, presents a long, heavy combination. The balance and mounting point is on the lens body, roughly equidistant from the end of the lens and the back of the camera. By looking very closely at the end of the lens as the shutter fired,, I could actually see the slight up/down vibration of the lens. I attributed this to the fact that the balance point on a tripod is such that the single point, Nikon factory mount (while substantial) simply wasn't sufficiently ridged to stop the movement. Using the two-point mount that Kirk offers makes this combination much less likely to move up and down. A heavy ball head that has a 26 pound capacity also added to the stability factor. I get virtually no movement now.
