Yes, that's a useful reference, but takes little account of the fact that the tripod you have with you is more useful than the tripod you have left at home because it is too big/heavy to carry. If you are going to use long exposures you obviously need a rock-solid tripod, but the amount of stabilisation offered by a high-quality lightweight tripod can still be better than nothing in many situations. I have a solid Gitzo tripod for when I need it, but on trips I carry my little GT1541T Traveller tripod which serves me very well for botanical fieldwork (with the short column available as needed to facilitate ground-level work) and architectural shots with the TS24. I have even used it to good effect with the 100~400, although that is certainly pushing it to the limit.
