Hello everybody! It is time to put together a new image editing rig.

How about:

  • Processor: Intel Core i7-3770K, 4 x 3.50GHz, 77W, boxed

Best bang for your buck, good choice.

  • Processor Cooler: Thermalright True Spirit 120 Rev.A (BW)

Try this, if you are not over clocking by more than 25%. It'll save soem cash & has a great rep:

COOLER MASTER Hyper 212 EVO RR-212E-20PK-R2 Continuous Direct Contact 120mm Sleeve CPU Cooler Compatible with latest Intel 2011/1366/1155 and AMD FM1/FM2/AM3+
$30

  • RAM: Kingston HyperX Genesis Special Edition Grey DIMM XMP Kit 8GB PC3-12800U CL9-9-9-27 (DDR3-1600) 4x8GB = 32GB

Get gSkill RAM, it's what most self builders have the best luck with.

  • Motherboard: ASRock Z77 Extreme4-M, Z77

I'd go with the extreme6 z77, it has much better i/o options. I use the extreme6 x79 and am very happy with it.

I have been eyeballing this card:

  • Graphics card: Gigabyte Radeon HD 7850 OC, 2048MB

But will it support the 10 bit displays and calibration? I have not followed this 10-bit development recently but I would think that 10 bit LUTs and grapgics cards are now common? Please advice, I am at a loss here.

Definately go with an nVidia quadro if you want the best performance in 10 bit with cs5/6. Besides, the nVidia drivers and driver support are far superior with nVidia over AMD.

  • Win7 or Win8? I am open to all ideas and advice

Go win 7 x64. It's a better desktop OS.

  • Propably an Antec case and some suitable power source

Don't skimp on a ps, get at least a high quality 700 watt.

I use a Spyder4 to profile and calibrate my display, a HP LP2475w.

Will I see an improvement in tonal gradations if I just add a "10-bit graphics card"? I will in the future buy a native 10-bit panel though.

I use LR4 and PS CS5.

All help is appreciated very much! Thanks!

There is simply too much beauty in the world to photograph it all, but I'm trying.
