18-35 D, is it that bad? Galen Rowell didn't think so!

Hi!

It's a bit dated (i.e. film era), but the late Galen Rowell was able to get great images with the 18-35, and because of its relatively light weight, often preferred to travel with it than the heavier 17-35:

I haven't personally used the 18-35, but from my reading, it works pretty well stopped down as a landscape lens, but not  stellar wide open. It has been reported to be better on the 35 end than  at 18mm. Bjørn Rørslett states that at 35mm, the 18-35 approaches the IQ of the 17-35.
