A couple things you need to know, as D Cox mentioned, the snow is the only natural thing for the camera to focus on. It doesn't understand depth, it just knows contrast.

Secondly, contrast detect cameras are sensitive to vertical lines.  I would suggest focusing using a selected focus point set on the bike seat, or somewhere with nothing high contrast in the background.  The basket on the handle bars might work well too.

For the second shot, I think it could be motion blur, yes, I know you are at 1/100 of a second with OIS, but it could be from shutter movement or something too or maybe strong wind or something, or maybe if the focus was having trouble it fell back to the large green box.  For this one I would move the focus point above her head so it catches focus on the pole, nothing she is wearing is high enough contrast for focusing.

So read the other posts about how to set up the camera (use a selected focus point, turn off AF assist light, etc) and then look for high contrast areas near where you want to focus and set the focus point there.
